The Young Professionals and Students Mentoring Forum is being held during the DFI-EFFC International Conference on Deep Foundations and Ground Improvement, June 5-8, 2018, in Rome.
The overall goal of the Forum is to encourage promising young engineers to consider a career in deep foundations. The Forum is an opportunity for engineering students and job-seeking graduates to hear from young professionals working in the industry about their experiences. They also will have a chance to be selected for a stage/internship.
There are a couple of ways companies can get involved and support mentoring in the industry.
• Encourage young professionals in your company to submit a video proposal to be one of eight young professionals at the Forum. If selected, your company is expected to financially support their attendance of the conference to participate in the Forum. Registration for young professionals is half price. Your employees can submit this form to submit a video.
• Provide a 1-3 month stage (summer internship) to a student or recent graduate that attends the Forum. The Forum is a live session at the conference and will also be broadcast as a webinar to encourage more participation by students. You will receive the participating student/recent graduate contact information and their resumes so you can select one that is the best fit for your company.
If you are a young professional looking to get involved, you can create a 2-minute video that explains your experience and challenges while preparing for and seeking job opportunities in the deep foundations industry. While filming, consider explaining why you chose this field, courses you took, how you searched for a job, what you’re learning in your current role, your plans for the future, etc.
Please visit www.dfi-effc2018.org for instructions on submitting your video.
Out of the received proposals, the Organizing Committee will select eight presentations to be
showcased at the conference. Others may be chosen to be posted on DFI’s and EFFC’s
websites. The eight selected professionals will be participating live during a conference session on
Thursday, June 7, which will also be broadcast as a webinar. After the video presentations, there will be a question and answer period to mingle and network.
If you are a student or recent graduate, go to www.dfi-effc2018.org and register to attend the conference at a highly discounted rate. If you can’t be there in person, sign up at www.dfi-effc2018.org for a virtual experience to participate via webinar. Get the chance to apply for a 1-3 month stage/internship at a prominent deep foundation design and construction firm. Submit your resume to staff@dfi.org to be considered for a terrific opportunity where you will gain valuable industry experience.
